Barbara Warner

I have a life-long passion for public service and advocating on issues that are important to all of us. I am a skilled campaigner with decades of involvement with the NDP, from various roles on riding executives to my dedication during elections. I am running for the federal nomination to use my experience to take on the Ignatieff candidate and bring progressive representation back to Beaches-East York.
As a lawyer and legal aid case lawyer, I’ve seen firsthand the affects of unfair policies on families struggling to make ends meet. I have assisted hundreds of families in getting access to housing, education, and food. I have defended low-income families against unfair rent increases. I have been a strong advocate for women’s issues and the environment through my work with the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), and the Ontario Environmental Network.
As a mother and a volunteer in our community, I know how important it is to have a candidate who lives in our community and knows the issues facing our neighbours and can bring those concerns to Ottawa. I also have practical insight and experience in all three levels of government, from writing tough environmental legislation to increasing access to free legal clinics, from working for better daycare subsidies to dealing with constituent concerns. I have a proven record of getting results. I know our community, and I know how to make a real impact on the doorstep, in the media, and at the ballot box. With your support, I will stand up and speak out on the issues that matter most.
