Uphold the Right to Strike, Repeal Section 107

The Liberals have repeatedly used Section 107 of the Canadian Labour Code to violate workers’ Charter-protected right to strike, caving to Big Business and throwing workers under the bus.

Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code empowers the federal Minister of Labour to intervene in labour disputes in federally-regulated workplaces. The Minister can direct the Canada Industrial Relations Board to impose binding arbitration, extend collective agreements, or end strikes to "secure industrial peace"

The Liberal federal government has, in fact, invoked Section 107 multiple times since 2024 to force workers (including Air Canada and Canada Post employees) to end strikes and their attempts to press for what they need.

New Democrats are calling on the Liberals and Conservatives to finally respect workers and their Charter-protected bargaining rights and eliminate Section 107, the government’s go-to strikebreaking tool.
