I'm Shannon Devine and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the NDP candidate for Beaches–East York in the upcoming federal election. This is not a decision or a responsibility that I am taking lightly. I have worked alongside many of you over the years on campaigns and elections in Beaches–East York.
I'm Shannon Devine and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the NDP candidate for Beaches–East York in the upcoming federal election. This is not a decision or a responsibility that I am taking lightly. I have worked alongside many of you over the years on campaigns and elections in Beaches–East York.
We are a spirited and community-oriented bunch, and we and our neighbours deserve better from our elected representatives. We are living through an ever worsening housing and affordability crisis and Beaches–East York is becoming further divided between those who are struggling to afford what they need and those who can afford to thrive. The reality is, when it comes to decisions made in Ottawa - we can do better and to make that happen, we need to elect more New Democrats - including here in Beaches–East York.
I am writing this as I watch the Liberal leadership convention, as the Liberal Party takes credit for New Democrat ideas, principles and efforts. Meanwhile, Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives are threatening devastating cuts. The NDP, led by Jagmeet Singh, has been smart, strategic and creative in winning significant changes for Canadians. Incredibly, these are some of the biggest pieces of social infrastructure we have seen in generations: affordable child care, dental care, pharma care, a federal ban on replacement workers in the case of labour disputes and more.
Canadians are better off with more New Democrats in Ottawa.
It is this spirit of change that motivates me to be a strong and proud representative of Beaches–East York, as residents so much deserve. I am so excited to get going on your behalf!
Lastly, while we all just weathered a provincial election – showing great support for our own Dr. Kate Dupuis – we do not have time on our side, once again. The federal election could be called next week and we’re about to print campaign literature and signs, which can be costly.
