Ban surveillance pricing

New Democrats will stop giant grocers and Big Tech from using AI and surveillance to exploit us. Technology should be used to enrich our lives, not to rip us off!

We now live in a world in which Big tech, grocery chains and other retailers are teaming up to charge us more by using our personal data — where we live, what we browse, and how often we shop — to set the highest prices the algorithms tell them we’ll pay.

That means two people buying the same product could pay two different prices.

This practice is called “surveillance pricing” and the NDP is calling on the federal government to ban it before it spreads – both in-store and online.

Earlier this year, the NDP Manitoba government introduced a bill banning the practice in that province. Now we need federal leadership to ban surveillance pricing across the country.

While the Liberals claim to be shocked by high prices on essentials, like food, the NDP is the only party presenting concrete solutions to make life more affordable.

We're championing solutions that work for the 99%, rein in the power of grocery giants and tech oligarchs, and make your life more affordable.
